Mexico–United States Foundation for Science (Fundación México-Estados Unidos para la Ciencia, FUMEC)
Funds cross-border science collaboration between Mexico and the United States through binational grants and research partnerships.
Fundación México-Estados Unidos para la Ciencia (FUMEC) is a private binational nonprofit foundation established in 1992 with seed capital from the Mexican and US governments. It sits between research, entrepreneurship, and international cooperation, and it was created to connect Mexican SMEs, entrepreneurs, and researchers with technology and market networks across both countries.
FUMEC operates mainly as a program platform rather than a direct grantmaker. Its portfolio includes TechBA, ALÍATE, CEPRODI 4.0, PROPATENTA, and Crosslanding, which cover acceleration, university-industry linkage, digital capacity building, intellectual property, and binational collaboration. The foundation has also worked with partners such as the US State Department, NSF, CDC, IDB, and Mexico's Secretaría de Economía.
Since inception, FUMEC says it has mobilized more than MXN 3,500 million in public and private resources and served more than 5,000 companies. That gives it a practical role as an operator and convener: it helps firms reach foreign markets, helps researchers connect with industry, and turns cross-border support into delivered programs rather than standalone grant competition.
