TNO (Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research)

Invests TNO as an applied contract research organization for public and private clients, not open grantmaking.

TNO (Nederlandse Organisatie voor toegepast-natuurwetenschappelijk onderzoek) is the Netherlands' largest independent not-for-profit research organisation, founded by Dutch law in 1932 and headquartered in The Hague. With approximately 3,500 staff, TNO collaborates with around 3,000 large multinationals, SMEs, universities, and public authorities annually.

TNO is a contract-research RTO — it performs applied scientific research on commission from government and industry. It does not issue grants to third parties. TNO itself is a recipient of funding (Dutch government appropriations ~30%, EU Horizon Europe ~25%, industry contracts ~45%). SME engagement is handled via TNO Fast Track, a paid consulting/research-access service — not a grant programme.
