Pioneer was a remote, global startup accelerator founded in 2018 by Rishi Narang and Daniel Gross, with backing from Stripe and Marc Andreessen. It ran a weekly tournament model for founders and supported more than 150 companies, 300 founders, and teams from more than 50 countries before stopping new investments in 2024.

The Pioneer Offer combined about $7,000 in funding with a Silicon Valley trip, an online accelerator spot, mentorship, and the possibility of follow-on support. That cash piece sat inside a prize-plus-program package rather than a grant program, so the value came from access and momentum as much as from money.

Pioneer is best understood as a venture-backed accelerator with a prize element. Its role was to surface promising startups, rank progress weekly, and send top teams into a small but visible support path, not to run an open public grant competition. It stopped short of a traditional grantmaking role.
