Pivotal is an umbrella organization founded in 2015 by Melinda French Gates that funds and invests in solutions to expand women's power and influence in the U.S. and globally. Its grantmaking arm — Pivotal Philanthropies (a 501c3 foundation) — deploys philanthropic capital across caregiving, women's economic power, centering women and girls of color, mental health for young people, and women in tech. Melinda French Gates has committed a cumulative $2 billion, including $1 billion announced in May 2024 to deploy through 2026.

Pivotal operates through three legal entities: Pivotal Philanthropies (charitable grantmaking and impact investing), Pivotal Initiatives Fund (policy and advocacy 501c4), and Pivotal Ventures (LLC — direct equity investments and LP commitments into emerging VC funds). The vast majority of Pivotal Philanthropies' grantmaking is invitation-only partnership funding to pre-selected organizations; the sole publicly open competition identified was Action for Women's Health ($250M global challenge run with Lever for Change, awardees announced by end 2025). Jolt users most likely to benefit are nonprofits and social enterprises in women's health, caregiving, teen mental health, and women's economic mobility who should watch for future Pivotal open calls.
