Funds Canadian clean technology history and transition context through SDTC programs now moved to the National Research Council path.
Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) was a federal not-for-profit corporation that funded Canadian cleantech companies from 2001 to 2024. Over its lifetime it committed approximately CAD $2.1 billion across two flagship programs — the SD Tech Fund (late-stage pre-commercial demonstration) and the Seed Fund (early-stage). SDTC was wound down following an Auditor General report in June 2024 documenting 90 conflict-of-interest violations and $51 million awarded to ineligible projects. Programming transferred to the National Research Council (NRC) in March 2025; cleantech SMEs should now apply to NRC IRAP Clean Technology. A further merger into the Canada Innovation Corporation is planned for 2026-2027.
