The Chamada CNPq/MCTI/FNDCT Nº 12/2026 is the active call under Brazil's Programa de Capacitação Institucional (PCI), the CNPq instrument that funds research projects directly at Brazilian scientific and technological institutions. CNPq (Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico) is Brazil's principal federal research-funding agency, operating under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) and currently supporting approximately 107,000 active fellowships and 16,000 active projects with an R$ 2.8 billion annual research-support envelope. This PCI call is co-funded by FNDCT, the National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development administered by FINEP, and follows the 2024 expansion of FNDCT appropriations that marked the largest S&T investment cycle in Brazil since the end of budget freezes.
Eligibility under PCI is restricted to Brazilian scientific and technological institutions — public universities and recognized research organizations registered and operating in Brazil. For-profit companies and individuals are not eligible to lead proposals. Awards are made to the host institution, not to individual researchers. Specific award ceilings, scoring rubrics, and full eligibility conditions for this call are contained in the official call PDF (available at gov.br/cnpq), which was not fully extracted at research intake; applicants must consult the PDF before submission. The submission deadline for this edition is 27 June 2026, via CNPq's Plataforma Integrada Carlos Chagas.
PCI is one of CNPq's five flagship institutional-support instruments alongside INCT, MAI/DAI, PELD, and RHAE. Researchers applying must maintain an active and current Lattes CV on CNPq's researcher registry, which is a hard prerequisite for all CNPq submissions. The FNDCT co-funding component means FINEP compliance rules may apply alongside CNPq's standard grant conditions. Prospective applicants at qualifying Brazilian research institutions should download the full call document from the CNPq open calls portal and verify their institution's standing ahead of the June 2026 deadline.
