Horizon Cybersecurity: Post-Quantum & High-Assurance Cryptography

Funds €3–4M research projects that harden post-quantum cryptography, verify implementations and build trusted digital identity protocols.

ScheduledEuropean CommissionEU

Digital identities and essential services need cryptography that remains reliable as quantum computing advances. This Research and Innovation Action funds work on post-quantum protection, secure implementations and digital trust.

A proposal can focus on robust implementations that resist side-channel, fault or combined attacks; automated security testing; formal verification; analysis of quantum

Designing, building, and proving next-generation cryptography for the EU’s digital identity wallets and eIDs. A proposal addresses one of two tracks: new post-quantum (quantum-resistant) cryptographic schemes and protocols — digital signatures, entity authentication, authenticated key establishment over insecure networks, and password-based (PAKE) key exchange, sized for real wallet use cases — or High-Assurance Cryptographic Software (HACS): a shared specification language for cryptographic security properties, plus tools that give machine-checked, provable guarantees that software implements and uses cryptography correctly.
