Funds a €3M coordination action that benchmarks emerging industrial bio-based systems for cleaner, circular and more competitive European value chains.
Industrial bio-based systems need comparable evidence before operators and public authorities can identify techniques that reduce environmental pressures while supporting a fossil-free economy. Create a Europe-wide forum of academia, industry and government stakeholders to select and benchmark emerging techniques across industrial bio-based feedstock supply chains and value chains. The scope includes pulp and paper and bio-based chemicals, conversion of industrial residues and waste, mechanical and chemical recycling of bio-based plastics, and biotechnology-enabled bioremediation for polluted ecosystems including landfills and mining. Assessments cover development level, environmental performance, cost-effectiveness and trade-offs, with data aligned to INCITE, the Sevilla process and EU Bioeconomy Monitoring. Food and feed, biofuels and bioenergy, and health and medical devices are outside scope; LCA should follow the Environmental Footprint recommendation and voluntary SSbD framework where applicable.
