Horizon Health: Antibody Therapies for Emerging Viruses

Funds €9–10M projects that turn monoclonal antibodies into prevention and treatment options for one emerging virus.

ScheduledEuropean CommissionEU

Emerging and re-emerging viral infections can become global health threats quickly, especially as climate change alters where viruses spread. This topic funds research that moves existing monoclonal antibody candidates closer to prevention and treatment.

A proposal must choose one emerging virus and stay focused on it. The work can complete laboratory characterisation, test protective effects in

Advance existing prophylactic and therapeutic monoclonal antibody candidates against exactly one named virus: Ebola, Marburg, Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever, Rift Valley Fever, Enterovirus D68 or Chikungunya. Work covers in-vitro characterisation, animal-model protection testing, antibody-dependent enhancement risk, GMP batch production and first-in-human clinical safety studies. Proposals should engage regulators, use relevant research infrastructures and address sex, age, ethnicity and disability in clinical work.
