Thermoset materials are used where products need to be strong, durable or heat-resistant, but their cross-linked structure makes them difficult to recycle without losing performance. This topic funds industrial projects that use renewable or bio-based feedstocks to make thermosets that are both high-performing and designed for a more circular life.

Demonstrating at TRL 6 or above the resource-efficient production of innovative bio-based thermosets and their conversion into circular end-products that meet market performance requirements and work with existing manufacturing equipment. Projects must apply eco-design for circularity, test selected end-of-life routes at TRL 5 or above, and address recycling, reuse or upcycling rather than landfill or incineration. The work also covers additives, durability, thermal and mechanical performance, fire and corrosion resistance, early end-user and consumer input, Safe and Sustainable by Design assessment, and links to earlier and ongoing bio-based R&I projects.
