The Commission wants projects that integrate power electronics, intelligent electronic devices and software into distribution substations so operators get real-time monitoring, unified analytics and AI-assisted decision-making. It wants the resulting ‘smart substation ecosystem’ to cover both high-to-medium and medium-to-low voltage levels and to withstand natural hazards and cybersecurity incidents.
