Large Animal and Solar System Operations (LASSO) Prize
Pays multi-stakeholder U.S. teams a share of over $10 million to build and study cattle agrivoltaics pilot sites that combine solar power with cattle grazing.
Every team needs at least one solar-development partner and one cattle rancher or farmer, with room for optional members such as landowners, research organisations, universities and local utilities. Standard Track teams start by identifying a site and a PV-and-grazing integration plan for a system of at least 250 kW-dc, move through detailed design and permitting โ including an interconnection appโฆ
LASSO wants teams of solar developers, farmers and ranchers who will build pilot sites co-locating solar PV with cattle grazing and share data on costs, business models, and energy and agricultural outcomes. It excludes rooftop PV, feedlot-only projects, projects without real integration of cattle and the PV array, and any livestock other than cattle.
