Offers deep data and artificial intelligence strategy support for nonprofits through the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation.

The Patrick J. McGovern Foundation's Data Practice Accelerator is a rolling grant programme awarding up to $125,000 to nonprofits and social-impact organisations that are ready to invest in advanced data science and artificial intelligence capabilities. The programme is one of only two open competitive funding channels operated by PJMF — the other being the AI for Humanity Prize via MIT Solve. PJMF has committed approximately $75.8 million in grants in 2025 alone and has distributed roughly $500 million over the past decade in support of public-purpose AI and data initiatives globally.

Eligibility is limited to nonprofit and social-impact organisations that hold complex datasets and can demonstrate organisational readiness to deepen their data practice. For-profit entities are not eligible based on published programme description. Awards are not limited to US-based organisations, though PJMF's primary geographic focus is the US. Beyond the cash award, recipients receive intensive technical support from PJMF's own data scientists, engineers, and programme managers — a bundled benefit that substantially increases the effective value of participation. No match funding requirement is stated in programme materials.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, with a deadline of July 1, 2026 cited by grant aggregators. The application portal and full submission requirements are administered through PJMF's internal systems rather than a publicly named platform. Organisations best positioned to succeed will have identifiable, complex datasets, a concrete plan for data capability-building, and a demonstrated track record of responsible data stewardship aligned to PJMF's public-interest AI thesis.
