Funds research infrastructure between $4 million and $20 million — the gap between an instrument grant and a national facility.
NSF funds research infrastructure at two ends of the scale: the Major Research Instrumentation programme at the bottom and Major Multi-user Facilities at the top. This programme covers the space between them, and exists to give NSF an agile way to fund experimental capabilities in the middle.
