Caregiver AI Challenge Phase 1 — Track 2
Funds United States teams designing AI tools that strengthen the direct-care workforce through ACL's Caregiver AI Challenge.
The Administration for Community Living runs Track 2 of the Caregiver AI Challenge as a COMPETES Act prize competition for AI tools that extend and strengthen the direct-care workforce. Phase 1 asks applicants to outline an AI-driven solution for organizations that make it easier for caregivers to provide care.
A maximum of ten Track 2 Phase 1 applications can receive up to USD 100,000 each. ACL also says up to five solutions in named focus areas could receive an additional meritorious prize of up to USD 50,000, but that extra amount is not stored as the main award cap because it is conditional.
Private entities may apply if they are incorporated in and maintain a primary place of business in the United States. Individuals, teams, nonprofits, government agencies, and partnerships may also apply under the eligibility rules. AI tools must be at Technology Readiness Level 3 or higher, and Track 2 focuses on organizations such as direct-care workforce employers, home care co-operatives, and home and community-based providers.
Phase 1 applications are due by email to CaregiverAI@acl.hhs.gov by July 31, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The package must follow ACL's application outline and include a cover page, narrative, appendices, and data output logs where applicable.
The main caveat is that prize amounts for Phases 2 and 3 have not been announced. Applicants must win Phase 1 to move to later phases, so this row models only the open Phase 1 Track 2 prize.
Phase 1 design proposals for AI-enabled tools that create efficiencies to extend and strengthen the direct-care workforce.
