The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's Postdoc-to-Faculty Transition Awards support early-career researchers in cystic fibrosis science as they move from postdoctoral training into independent faculty positions. The programme spans two sequential phases over a total duration of three to five years. During the postdoctoral training phase, awardees receive up to $86,000 per year. Upon transitioning to a faculty appointment, the faculty phase provides $80,000 per year in salary support plus $30,000 per year in research funds, for a combined annual value of $110,000. No indirect costs are permitted on either phase of the award. The annual submission deadline is in December; applications are submitted through the awards.cff.org grants management system.

Eligibility is limited to US-based universities, academic medical centres, and non-commercial research institutions. Eligible applicants are postdoctoral researchers who are working in cystic fibrosis or are prepared to direct their research programme toward CF. The programme is distinct from the Path to a Cure Postdoc-to-Faculty Transition Award, which is a separate mechanism for researchers focused specifically on CFTR gene repair and replacement technologies; the standard Postdoc-to-Faculty award covers the full spectrum of CF-relevant science. No indirect costs are applied to either the training or faculty phase, which researchers and institutions should factor into budget planning.

Applications are reviewed once per year following the December deadline. Prospective applicants should initiate contact with CFF programme staff at grants@cff.org well in advance to confirm alignment of their research focus with current Foundation priorities and to obtain the applicable RFA for the current cycle. The zero-indirect-cost requirement means that institutions which normally mandate a full indirect-cost recovery rate must formally agree to accept the CFF terms before submission.

Supports postdoctoral researchers in cystic fibrosis transitioning to independent faculty positions, covering a postdoctoral training phase at up to $86,000 per year followed by a faculty phase at $80,000 salary plus $30,000 research funds annually.
