Joint Center of Excellence for Advanced Materials Research
Funds composite and advanced-materials research on aircraft structures, run through two FAA-designated university centers.
The FAA's Joint Center of Excellence for Advanced Materials (JAMS) funds research into keeping composite and advanced-material aircraft structures safe. It's a joint effort between two university-led centers: Wichita State University runs the composite and advanced-materials side (CECAM), and the University of Washington runs the transport-aircraft-structures side (AMTAS).
The research covers eigβ¦
Research to keep composite and advanced-material aircraft structures safe: damage tolerance, bonded-joint durability, additive manufacturing, crashworthiness, in-service aging, lightning-strike effects, new material systems, and inspection and maintenance methods β carried out through the FAA's two Center-of-Excellence member universities.
