AmplifyMass is a Massachusetts Clean Energy Center program that provides state-level cost-share funding to complement and amplify federal or non-federal prime grants already held by Massachusetts cleantech companies and academic institutions. The maximum award is $300,000 for cost-share projects tied to a prime grant, or $100,000 for stand-alone academic projects not connected to a federal award. The program operates on a rolling basis subject to available funding; the most recently published cycle (November 2025) was closed at the time of the most recent research.

Eligible applicants are Massachusetts-based cleantech companies and academic institutions; nonprofit organisations and research bodies outside of academic institutions are excluded. For-profit companies must meet SBA small business size standards and must have their majority of headquarters, sales, manufacturing, and R&D activity located in Massachusetts. A critical eligibility rule: applications for cost-share must be submitted before the prime federal or non-federal grant is executed — submissions after the prime award has been formally accepted are ineligible. Funding is disbursed on a milestone basis after MassCEC issues a commitment letter.

AmplifyMass is best suited for teams that have already won or are on the cusp of winning a federal SBIR, DOE, or similar prime grant and want to stretch that award further with complementary state dollars. The pre-execution timing gate is the most common disqualifier, so applicants should engage MassCEC during the period between receiving a prime award notification and executing the agreement. Academic institutions seeking the smaller $100,000 non-prime-tied track face fewer process constraints but must still demonstrate Massachusetts operations.
