The Community-Partnered Nursing Research Centers program (PAR-25-439) is a P20 center grant issued by the National Institute of Nursing Research to support the development of innovative research centers within U.S. Schools and Colleges of Nursing. Published September 26, 2025, PAR-25-439 funds institutions building nurse-led, community-engaged science infrastructure aligned with NINR's 2022–2026 strategic research lenses. Funded centers must fulfill four explicit purposes: strengthen centralized research resources, develop nurse-led interdisciplinary teams, build expertise in community-partnered research through pilot studies, and make community engagement integral to all center activities.

The award provides up to $500,000 per year in direct costs over a five-year project period, for a total direct-cost ceiling of $2.5 million per award (plus indirect costs). Two application due dates are active: January 25, 2026 (first cycle) and January 25, 2027 (second cycle). Eligibility is restricted to Schools and Colleges of Nursing at U.S. institutions — standalone research institutes and for-profit organizations are not eligible. NINR hosted a pre-application webinar (recording available on the NINRnews YouTube channel). Questions are directed to NINRProgram@mail.nih.gov.

To compete successfully, applicant schools must demonstrate an existing community partnership infrastructure or a concrete plan to develop one, and show how pilot studies will apply NINR's strategic research lenses to real community health problems. The P20 is a developmental center mechanism — it funds the building of a research center's capacity rather than a specific completed research project. Institutions that have existing community-based research partnerships, interdisciplinary nursing faculty, and identified health disparity or population health questions are best positioned for this competitive award.

Development of nurse-led, community-partnered research centers within Schools and Colleges of Nursing, advancing NINR's strategic research lenses through pilot studies.
