Funds research and engineering work that cuts injuries and deaths in commercial fishing, from vessel design to severe-weather detection.
Commercial fishing is one of the most dangerous jobs in the country, and Congress created a dedicated research programme for it. NIOSH runs that programme jointly with the Coast Guard, under a memorandum of understanding the two agencies signed in 2018.
