Both individual applicants and teams or consortia from academia and industry can enter. Selected teams first compete in a Spark Phase, paid in two instalments, before a smaller group advances to a roughly five-month Advance Phase; challenge winners receive a final prize after completion and evaluation, alongside separate special awards per challenge.
