Supports Austrian doctoral programmes with structured cohorts, supervision systems, and sustained PhD training resources.

FWF (Austrian Science Fund)AustriaGrant

FWF doc.funds is the Austrian Science Fund's structured doctoral training programme. It funds doctoral programmes at Austrian research institutions and is built to give PhD candidates a coherent training environment rather than isolated individual-project support. Each programme receives about EUR 2.5 million over a maximum 48-month term, typically supporting 5 to 10 doctoral positions plus a training supplement of up to EUR 5,000 per candidate per year. About five programmes are selected per call, and the programme is currently between submissions while the next jury meeting and late-November decisions have already been scheduled. The strongest applications are likely to combine a clear thematic focus, a robust supervision structure, and a credible recruitment and training plan for a doctoral cohort. It is a fit for institutions that can show sustained research capacity and a realistic path to training the next generation of researchers. It is especially relevant to universities building long-running doctoral schools.
