First Nations Clean Energy Advice Grants

Provides expert advisory grants for First Nations organisations moving toward clean energy transitions.

First Nations Clean Energy Advice Grants sits under the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water and forms the open-applications stream of the First Nations Clean Energy Program. The wider program totals AUD 74.6 million over three years from 2025 and was built around the First Nations Clean Energy Strategy launched in December 2024. Advice Grants are the part designed for First Nations organisations that need practical support to take part in the clean energy transition. The stream offers grants from AUD 5,000 to AUD 80,000. Round 1 carries AUD 8.64 million within a two-round advice allocation of AUD 39.455 million. Funding can cover legal, governance, financial, and feasibility advice, along with training and workshops. Eligible applicants are First Nations organisations or groups with an ABN, and auspicing partners are allowed where needed. Projects run for two to 12 months, and all funded activity must finish by 31 March 2028. The strongest fit is a group that knows the clean energy issue it needs to solve but needs specialist help to move forward in a structured way. Demand is managed round by round, so timing matters, and Round 1 can close early if the available pool is exhausted. Applications are strongest when they set out a clear work plan, a practical advisory need, and a direct benefit for the organisation and its community.
