International Mobility (Travel Grants & Bilateral Mobility Projects)

Provides travel and mobility support for Flemish researchers through bilateral exchanges and research visits.

FWO (Flemish Research Foundation)BelgiumGrant

International Mobility is FWO's umbrella for researcher travel support and bilateral exchange agreements. It sits under FWO (Flemish Research Foundation) and combines five rolling travel-grant calls with a second layer of country-specific mobility projects, including two-year researcher exchange programmes with partner agencies abroad. The structure is broad but practical: short travel support on one side, formal bilateral mobility on the other. The five permanent calls cover conference travel abroad, workshops and courses abroad, short study visits abroad, long stays abroad, and incoming stays in Flanders. Bilateral mobility projects are separate two-year joint mobility agreements, and the current open partners include China and South Korea. Travel grants require positive travel advice from the employer, and the public page does not publish a single award amount for the travel side. This programme fits researchers who need movement rather than project capital: a conference appearance, a research stay, or a structured exchange that strengthens an existing partnership. The strongest cases usually have a clear purpose, a host or collaborator who matters to the work, and an employer who supports the trip. Because the umbrella includes both rolling travel and country-linked exchanges, applicants should match the route to the actual mobility need instead of trying to force a project narrative into a travel call.

Each grant below is a distinct funding opportunity with its own eligibility, scope, and deliverables.
