Development Project (Ontwikkelingsproject)

Ontwikkelingsproject (Development Project) is VLAIO's route for innovative development work under the same Flemish agency. It supports companies, non-profits, and public bodies with activity in Flanders when they need to turn a new or improved product, process, or service into something workable, including prototypes, pilots, and demonstrators. Support runs from 25% to 50% of accepted costs, or up to 60% with interregional or international cooperation, with a minimum of €25,000 and a maximum of €3 million. The project can last up to 24 months, or up to four years for late-stage demonstrators, pilots, or scale-up work. Intake is rolling, and VLAIO will not subsidise costs incurred before the approved start date. The route fits teams that already have enough insight to build, test, and validate, but still face meaningful development risk. VLAIO allows the application before a legal entity exists, yet it pays only once the company is incorporated. The strongest applications combine a clear business case with a project that can justify the unfunded share.
