Bexar County Innovation Fund

The Bexar County Innovation Fund is the county's main tool for accelerating the local innovation ecosystem. It supports companies that relocate to Bexar County, expand there, hire local talent, or build visible innovation activity that strengthens the region's tech base. The program is governed by the county's Innovation Policy, approved in December 2022. Funding runs through six categories. Recruitment and Expansion support company relocation and local growth, SBIR Matching can provide up to $50,000, the Security Clearance Stipend can cover up to $7,500 per person with a two-person annual limit, Skills Development can pay $1,000 per new employee up to $50,000 a year, Innovation Development Activities back competitions and boot camps, Professional and Technical Training covers certification costs for residents, and Brand Building supports tech-sector promotion with private match. The program-level ceiling is $250,000. Applications are submitted through the county portal on a rolling basis and are approved by the Bexar County Commissioners Court. The strongest fit is an established local company or ecosystem partner with a clear Bexar County footprint, especially when the proposal ties hiring, training, SBIR leverage, or broader ecosystem-building to measurable local impact.
