CNPq INCT — National Institutes of Science and Technology (Institutos Nacionais de Ciência e Tecnologia)
Funds national Brazilian research institutions networks through multi-institution scientific programmes.
CNPq INCT, the National Institutes of Science and Technology program, supports multi-institution research networks anchored at a Brazilian host university or research institute. Under CNPq, it is one of Brazil's largest network grants, and the 2024 cycle approved 121 institutes with roughly R$ 1.45 billion committed. Each institute runs for five years and can receive up to R$ 15 million in the current cycle. The program requires consortia, is open to universities and research institutions in Brazil, and sits across themes such as AI, quantum technologies, health, biodiversity, and digital transformation. Funding is anchored in FNDCT and supplemented by state foundations, CAPES, and the Ministry of Health, with a 30 percent reserve for North, Northeast, and Center-West institutions inside CNPq's FNDCT share. That structure rewards established networks that can coordinate across institutions and regions. The strongest proposals are those with a clear scientific agenda, a credible management structure, and the ability to mobilize co-funding or strategic partners around a national-scale research program.
