Canada Impact+ Research Infrastructure Fund (CIRIF)
Funds research chairs in Canada Impact plus initiatives with institutional support following chair selection.
The Canada Impact+ Research Infrastructure Fund sits under the Canada Foundation for Innovation and was announced in Canada's 2025 federal budget. It is tied to institutions that have accepted Canada Impact+ Research Chairs, so the infrastructure award follows the talent decision rather than standing alone. The fund belongs to the wider Canada Global Impact+ Research Talent initiative and is meant to put major infrastructure behind recruited researchers with global standing. Each accepted Chair brings CAD 4 million to the institution, and each proposal can reach CAD 6 million when infrastructure and operating costs are combined. There are two intakes: October 2026 with a Board decision in March 2027, and February 2027 with a Board decision in June 2027. Allocations do not roll over between intakes, and the work is organized around eight strategic areas including advanced digital technologies, health and biotech, clean technology, and defence or dual-use themes. The route suits institutions that can move quickly once a Chair is secured and that already know which lab build-out, equipment package, or operating support is needed. The winning logic is straightforward: the infrastructure must follow the chair, map to one of the strategic priorities, and be ready within the delivery window. It is not a general purpose infrastructure call, and applicants succeed by linking the facilities plan to a concrete recruitment outcome.
Each grant below is a distinct funding opportunity with its own eligibility, scope, and deliverables.
