Genomic Applications Partnership Program — National (N-GAPP)
Funds Canadian genomics to turn scientific breakthroughs into practical tools used by industry and public actors.
The National Genomic Applications Partnership Program is Genome Canada's flagship commercialization route. It funds projects that translate genomics research into real-world use by pairing researchers with private-sector, government, or non-profit end users. The program sits within Canada's genomics strategy and is delivered through Genome Canada's network of six regional Genome Centres. Genome Canada contributes C$300,000 to C$2 million per project, within a total project envelope of C$900,000 to C$6 million. Its share is capped at one-third of total project cost, projects run for up to two years, and the national envelope is C$90 million across four cycles. Applicants do not apply directly to Genome Canada; the route runs through the regional Genome Centres. The program suits teams that can show a clear application path, an end-user partner, and a project that can move quickly from discovery to deployment. The strongest proposals are collaborative by design, with the outside partner helping define the use case rather than arriving at the end as a passive validator.
