NRC Outreach Initiative Grants and Contributions Program
Offers outreach grants in Canada for non-profits and charities delivering STEM engagement through conferences, workshops, and science participation programs.
The NRC Outreach Initiative Grants and Contributions Program supports science- or innovation-based outreach, conferences, workshops, symposia, and similar activities for non-profit organizations and charities in Canada. The same framework includes an Indigenous outreach stream for work by and for Indigenous peoples in STEM, which keeps the program close to public engagement and participation rather than research delivery. The program uses a semi-annual intake, with spring applications due February 10 for events starting April 1 or later and fall applications due October 10 for events starting no later than March 31 of the next year. Applicants request the form and guide from NRC Stakeholder Relations, and urgent cases can be reviewed outside the regular cycle. The eligibility record also allows universities and research organizations when the activity fits the rules. Strong requests show clear science-literacy impact, align with NRC priorities or technology-innovation goals, and reach under-represented groups or talent-development audiences. The Indigenous stream places extra weight on relationships with Indigenous researchers, communities, organizations, and governments, plus reconciliation, bridging knowledge systems, and increasing Indigenous participation in STEM. Successful applicants administer the funds under the agreement and report at the end of the project.
