Greater Bay Area Joint S&T Innovation Fund

Funds cross-border teams between Guangdong and Macau or Hong Kong for shared innovation and regional collaboration goals.

The Greater Bay Area Joint S&T Innovation Fund supports cross-border R&D between Guangdong and its Greater Bay Area partners, especially Macau and Hong Kong. It is built for projects that need a Guangdong lead and a real institutional partner on the other side of the boundary, so the scientific work and the budget are both shared. The 2026 Guangdong-Macau cycle briefing was held on 2025-12-31, and the Macau stream is split between joint funded projects and cooperation projects. Applicants need co-principal investigators on both sides, Guangdong registration for the lead, and submission through the Sunshine Platform; the Macau side commonly involves institutions such as the University of Macau, Macau University of Science and Technology, Macau Polytechnic, or MIIA. This is a strong fit for teams already operating across jurisdictions and able to manage joint governance rather than a single-entity project. The best proposals have a clear division of scientific roles, a practical co-funding plan, and a partner relationship that is deep enough to support the administrative load of a cross-border grant.
