Guangdong Key Areas R&D Plan

Supports Guangdong companies through grants in strategic science and technology areas from manufacturing to life sciences.

The Guangdong Key Areas R&D Plan is Guangdong's applied industrial R&D umbrella under the Guangdong Department of Science and Technology. It runs through multiple specialty tracks rather than a single general call, with themed calls for sectors such as laser and additive manufacturing, modern agriculture, next-generation IT, and biomedicine. The plan uses annual or biennial specialty guides, and enterprise-led projects must cover at least 70% of total project costs from their own side. Consortium projects are capped at five entities, funding is released in lump-sum tranches tied to milestones, and applications move through the Guangdong S&T Business Management Sunshine Platform. Some Greater Bay Area calls also allow Hong Kong and Macau institutions to participate as consortium partners. This route suits Guangdong teams that already have a clear industrial problem, a capable host, and enough budget strength to carry a large co-funding burden. It rewards applicants that can keep prior provincial projects in good standing, because overdue or incomplete provincial work can disqualify the project lead from new support.
