Career Development and Transition Funding supports individuals at any career stage pursuing work that reduces global catastrophic risks or improves the long-term future. Primary focus areas are AI risk mitigation and global catastrophic biological risks. Eligible activities include graduate study (master's, PhD, MPP, law), unpaid internships, independent study, career transition periods, postdocs, professional certifications, online courses, and sabbaticals. Applications are open on a rolling basis until further notice, and reviewed within approximately 6 weeks. The program requires a funding gap — it will not duplicate other funding sources. This program subsumes the former Open Philanthropy Biosecurity Scholarship. Past grantees include individuals now at UK AISI, SecureBio, MIRI, and Cambridge.
