GAČR Lead Agency International Projects
Funds international co-funded projects through a lead-agency model, simplifying joint review for cross-border scientific work.
GAČR Lead Agency International Projects sits under the Czech Science Foundation, the Czech Republic's public body for basic research, and it extends that mandate into international collaboration. The scheme uses the Weave Lead Agency model, so one agency leads the review while the partner agency covers its national team. Czech participation is limited to research organisations and universities, with applications in Czech or English. The active partner set includes Austria's FWF, Germany's DFG, Poland's NCN, Slovenia's ARIS, Switzerland's SNSF, Luxembourg's FNR, Croatia's HRZZ, and the U.S. NSF. Projects run for two to three years, and the current tender cycle was announced for 2027 with a 31 March 2026 deadline. The scheme is best suited to teams that already have a cross-border scientific partner and want a single review route rather than two parallel national submissions. GAČR can act either as Lead Agency or as Partner Agency, which keeps the route flexible for Czech principal investigators working in basic research.
