GAČR Restart Grants
Funds career re-entry for Czech researchers after family or care-related interruptions, supporting full research reintegration.
GAČR Restart Grants are the Czech Science Foundation's re-entry scheme for researchers returning after parental leave or other dependent-care breaks. The program is a newer line in the foundation's basic-research offer, and its purpose is to keep scientists attached to Czech academia when family responsibilities interrupt a career path. Projects run for two to four years and are intended for applicants who earned a PhD within the past ten years and apply within two years of ending a break of at least one year. The 2027 call followed the foundation's annual spring timetable, and the 2026 cohort supported 19 projects with roughly CZK 70 million in total. The best fit is a researcher with a clear re-entry plan, a Czech host institution, and a project that can recover momentum without demanding an immediate return to full pace. The scheme is especially relevant where the applicant needs time to rebuild a publication or grant trajectory after time away from research.
