Program TRIO (Applied R&D Consortia — concluded)

Offers collaboration pathways for Czech firms and universities through grants for industrial applied innovation.

Program TRIO was the Ministry of Industry and Trade's applied-research scheme for consortia of firms and research organizations in key enabling technologies. It sat in the ministry's direct portfolio as a Czech national grant program, and it was built around collaborative projects rather than single-applicant awards. Four public calls ran from 2016 to 2022, and the published history counts 1,370 projects funded in total. The final call was VS4. Companies, universities, and research organizations could take part, but applicants had to be registered and operating in the Czech Republic, and the program required consortia. TRIO closed with no further calls planned and project execution wound down over the following years. Its practical role was to push applied research toward industrial use, and it was later succeeded by TREND for broader applied research and by TWIST for a more focused technology agenda. The program materials are in Czech, which matches its domestic orientation.
