Robotics Research Action Plan

Supports robotics growth in Germany through national action planning, workforce development, and institute coordination for applied industrial robotics expansion.

The Robotics Research Action Plan is the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space's framework for strengthening Germany's robotics ecosystem. It focuses on enabling technologies, concentrating top research sites, training skilled workers, and moving robotics into practical applications. The backbone of the plan is the Robotics Institute Germany, which was funded under a 2023 call and brings together leading robotics sites in a decentralised institute. Germany already has the fourth-highest robot density worldwide and the largest robotics market in Europe, so the action plan is designed to organise an existing strength rather than build from scratch. Funding is delivered through topic-specific Bekanntmachungen, and the record allows German universities, research organisations, nonprofits, and for-profits while excluding individuals. The best fit is for teams that can connect research depth with transfer, shared infrastructure, or workforce development. The ministry uses the action plan to push robotics from isolated projects toward a more connected national system, which means proposals are strongest when they show a clear role in that network and a practical route into deployment.
