Provides direct grants for replacing fossil-fuel heating with renewable systems in homes.

KfW BankengruppeGermanyGrant

KfW 458 is a direct, non-repayable grant supporting private residential property owners who replace an existing fossil-fuel or old heating system with a renewable alternative. The base grant is 30% of eligible costs, which can stack up to 70% via three bonuses: a 20% Climate Speed Bonus for replacing a functional oil, coal, or gas-only boiler, a 30% Income Bonus for households with annual taxable income at or below €40,000, and a 5% Efficiency Bonus for high-efficiency heat pumps. A flat €2,500 emissions surcharge is also available for qualifying biomass systems. The program is rolling with no fixed deadline; it accepts applications year-round until the annual federal budget allocation is depleted. Applications must be submitted via the Meine KfW portal before work begins. Eligible measures include heat pumps, solar thermal, biomass heating, fuel cell heaters, and connection to district heating networks. Existing buildings only — construction permit must be at least five years old. Civil law partnerships (GbR) must use Program 459 instead.
