FLOWIN Prize (Floating Offshore Wind Readiness)

Offers a prize for teams advancing floating offshore wind manufacturing and deployment readiness.

FLOWIN, short for Floating Offshore Wind Readiness, sits under DOE Wind Energy Technologies Office and uses the American-Made Challenges platform to support floating offshore wind manufacturing and deployment readiness in US waters. It is a prize competition rather than a grant, and it is WETO’s flagship prize competition for this part of the wind portfolio. The competition has three phases and a total pool of $5.75M in cash plus up to $1.1M in national-lab voucher support. The eligible field includes designers, fabricators, project site developers, and other teams that can move floating offshore wind toward manufacturing and deployment readiness. Individuals are allowed, and the geography is US-focused. Phase 3 remains under review, so the competition is paused midstream and no winner list has been posted for that phase. Teams that fit this route usually need credible engineering maturity, a clear path to US marine deployment, and enough execution strength to work through a staged prize process rather than a conventional grant award.
