Battlefield Land Acquisition Grants is a National Park Service program in the American Battlefield Protection Program that uses LWCF money to acquire and permanently protect threatened battlefield lands from the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, and Civil War. Projects must fall outside the legislative boundaries of National Park units. The program requires a 50 percent non-federal match and is open to state, tribal, and local governments, with nonprofit partners also eligible. In FY2026 it awarded $7,469,893 across Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Virginia, and the annual cycle is now closed pending the next round. This is a narrow preservation route for land trusts and public agencies that can move quickly on acquisition. It suits partners that can document a tract's historical role, secure local match support, and close on land before the competitive window moves on. The next NOFO is expected in late 2026 or early 2027, so applicants need a ready parcel, a strong battlefield significance case, and a matching-funds plan.

Each grant below is a distinct funding opportunity with its own eligibility, scope, and deliverables.
