ESA Business Applications Space Solutions (BASS)
Supports Co funding for space enabled downstream applications Kick starts plus periodic thematic calls.
ESA Business Applications Space Solutions, usually called BASS, is the European Space Agency's downstream applications programme under the optional ARTES line. It is funded by participating Member States and is designed to turn space assets into commercial services, with a new ACCESS line launched on 27 November 2025. The core route is the rolling Kick-start call, which funds six-month feasibility studies at up to โฌ75,000 and covers 75% of costs. BASS also runs thematic calls and rolling proof-of-concept or pilot routes, including the 2026 University of Tomorrow, Sustainable Wetlands, Wildfires, and Digitalisation of the Water Sector calls. Project teams must use satellite communications, Earth observation, or navigation, and eligibility varies by call and participating country. BASS suits companies and consortia that can show a clear commercial case for a space-enabled application and a realistic next step after the study phase. ESA administers the calls through the Business Applications team, so applicants need to track the specific call page, cut-off date, and participating-state list for each round.
