European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)

Supports EU's main regional investment fund channelled through national regional authorities, not applied for directly.

European CommissionEUGrant

The European Regional Development Fund is the EU's primary instrument for reducing regional disparities across Member States. Its five policy objectives span smart Europe (innovation, SMEs, digitisation), green Europe (low-carbon transition — minimum 30% allocation required), connected Europe (mobility infrastructure), social Europe (employment, education, healthcare), and Europe closer to citizens (locally-led urban development). CRITICAL: ERDF operates under shared management — the European Commission sets the framework but national and regional Managing Authorities (MAs) in each Member State decide which projects receive funding under their Operational Programmes (OPs). Applicants do NOT apply via the EC or SEDIA. They apply to their national or regional MA. Eligibility criteria, deadlines, and award sizes vary entirely by country, region, and OP.
