Deep Tech Development Aid (Aide au Développement Deeptech, ADD)

Funds French deeptech projects in early industrialization through a blended model combining grant support and repayable financing.

Aide au Developpement Deeptech sits under Bpifrance as a mid-stage financing route for breakthrough R&D projects before industrial or commercial launch. It supports French SMEs and mid-caps, with the latter limited to 2,000 employees, and it is aimed at work at the industrial research and experimental development stage. The programme is rolling and has no published closing date. Support takes the form of a mixed grant and recoverable advance, with a maximum of 2 million euros. Projects can run for up to 36 months, payments are made in two or three tranches, and the advance portion is repaid quarterly. There are no application fees, which keeps the route focused on technical merit rather than transactional overhead. The strongest fit is an innovation project that is still too early for commercial launch but already mature enough to carry a structured development plan. Applicants do best when they can show a clear technical milestone path, a credible budget, and a project that belongs in the deeptech middle stage rather than the earliest discovery phase. In Bpifrance's ladder, this instrument bridges the gap between Bourse French Tech Emergence and later scale-up financing.
