Salata Summer Research Funding Program

Offers summer stipends to Harvard students working on climate and sustainability projects with research mentorship.

Salata Summer Research Funding Program is a Harvard Salata Institute grant line for Harvard undergraduate and graduate students doing climate research. It supports summer work tied to climate and sustainability and is limited to student applicants in the United States. The program is built around stipends rather than large project awards. SURF provides $3,000 plus housing and meals for a nine-week residential program, undergraduate independent research can receive $3,000 to $6,000, and graduate independent research can receive up to $6,000 once per student. Faculty advisor support is required across the tracks. The best fit is a student who already has a research question, an advisor, and a summer plan that can be completed in one season. It works well for fieldwork, data analysis, and other focused pieces of climate research that can move quickly from idea to completed work. Its annual rhythm makes it a practical option for returning applicants with a clear project in hand.
