Research Ireland Frontiers for the Future Programme

Frontiers for the Future is Research Ireland's flagship investigator-led programme, funding highly innovative collaborative research with strong impact potential across all scientific and humanistic disciplines. It is the successor to the legacy Science Foundation Ireland Investigators flagship, retained under the Research Ireland brand after the 2024 merger. Direct costs are funded at €600,000–€1,500,000 over 4–5 years. An Emerging Investigator category exists for researchers without prior major Research Ireland awards or returning from eligible leave; their applications are weighted more heavily toward research quality rather than track record. The lead applicant's own salary is not covered. All applications must be hosted at an eligible Irish research body.
