National PPI Ignite Network (PPI-IN)

The National PPI Ignite Network is HRB's single national grant for Patient and Public Involvement capacity building across Irish health and social care research. It sits under the Health Research Board, with one connected application representing HRB-approved higher education institutions across the island of Ireland. The 2026 award runs for 60 months and combines a €1.84 million National Office allocation with €0.5 million per Lead Site. This is a consortium route, not an open call for individuals or standalone teams. The lead institution must be an HRB-approved higher education institution, and the network is expected to strengthen PPI practice, grow participation, embed PPI in higher education, and develop resources for data science and AI projects. The cycle is long: one award per round, with the next call expected around 2030. Applicants succeed by showing a credible national structure and a clear plan for reach, coordination, and practical support. The 2026 round closed on 16 July 2025, with decisions expected in December 2025.
