The US-Ireland Research and Development Partnership Programme is a tri-jurisdiction HRB scheme that sits alongside Research Ireland, NIH, and Northern Ireland partners. It funds collaborative research across the United States, the Republic of Ireland, and Northern Ireland, with HRB backing the Ireland-side health research component. Awards go up to €700,000, and the call is rolling until October 2028. Applicants must include at least one researcher from each of the three jurisdictions, with mid-stage or senior-stage researchers leading. The process follows NIH RO1-style submission, including an intention to submit 10 weeks before the NIH deadline and a draft proposal six weeks before. Universities, research organisations, and companies can participate, but individual applicants are not eligible. The strongest proposals are truly trilateral and use the programme to coordinate research that would be weaker in any single jurisdiction. Teams that understand NIH review expectations, can manage the lead times, and can show a practical reason for all three jurisdictions to be at the table are the best fit.
