Research Ireland Pathway Programme

Supports postdoctoral researchers transitioning to independent research leadership in Ireland.

The Pathway Programme supports postdoctoral researchers transitioning to independent research leadership roles in Ireland, across STEM and AHSS disciplines. It funds the applicant's own salary plus a PhD student over 4 years, with a maximum of €535,000 direct costs. A mentor is required. Eligibility is tightly restricted: applicants must have a PhD of at least 2 years' standing, must not yet have an academic contract of 36 months or more, and must not hold significant peer-reviewed independent research grants. The 2026 call ran a two-stage process (HEI nomination → Full Proposal) and is now closed; outcomes expected September 2026.
