Atal Incubation Centres (AIC)
Funds university and institutional startup incubators to support early-stage founders with mentoring and workspace.
Atal Incubation Centres are AIM-backed business incubators housed in universities, institutions, and corporates. The programme sits inside Atal Innovation Mission, the Government of India’s flagship innovation arm under NITI Aayog, and it turns a host institution into a startup-support platform. Each centre can receive up to INR 10 crore over five years. The route is open to Indian universities, research institutions, nonprofits, and companies that can host an incubator; individual applicants are out. The current footprint includes 85 operational centres supporting more than 2,900 startups, and the main call is currently between cycles. The clearest fit is a host with space, leadership, and operational discipline to support founders rather than simply award money. Strong applications read as service platforms with mentoring, workspace, and founder access built in, because the programme is designed to create durable incubator capacity, not a one-off grant spend. It also suits hosts that already have governance, entrepreneur intake, and programme management capacity.
