BIRAC Biotechnology Industry Partnership Programme (BIPP)
Funds India biotechnology industry partnerships between industry and research organizations for frontier commercialization.
The Biotechnology Industry Partnership Programme (BIPP) is BIRAC's government-industry cost-sharing PPP for path-breaking research in frontier futuristic technology areas. BIPP funds larger, longer-duration projects than the BIG and SBIRI schemes, targeting Indian biotech companies undertaking ambitious R&D programmes. Funding: Up to INR 25 Crore (₹250,000,000) per project on a cost-sharing basis with industry. Industry partners co-fund the project. Special provisions exist for start-ups that have not received prior BIRAC funding (up to ₹50 Lakhs additional support). Project duration: typically 2-4 years with milestone-based disbursement. Industry equipment cost support is a significant component of larger BIPP grants. Eligible projects: frontier futuristic technology areas in biotechnology, including next-generation diagnostics, novel therapeutics, biotech platforms, advanced biomanufacturing, agricultural biotechnology, synthetic biology, and other emerging areas with high commercial impact potential. Applications are submitted to BIRAC with industry-co-funding commitments documented. Project review includes technical, financial, and commercial assessment. BIPP scheme guidelines were updated 16 April 2025 (latest version at birac.nic.in).
